Success Stories

Kathy Joly

2009 Medical Assistant Graduate
Medical Assistant, Coastal Medical in East Providence, RI

“It was a wonderful experience for me, not having been in school for 30 years. The technical information was phenomenal. The labs we had were excellent, and I was very confident when I left that I knew what I was doing.”

Kathy worked for the same drug store company for 27 years before xoming to MTTI. “I started out as a cashier worked my way up to the corporate office,” she said. “Then the company was sold and my job moved to Pennsylvania.”

"I got a job at the Staples corporate office, but was laid off after 10 months. I was out of work for almost a year. I couldn’t even find temporary work”

She heard about MTTI from a relative. She went to an open house and two weeks later she was sitting in a classroom, learning to be a Medical Assistant.

"Going back to the classroom worried me a little at first, but the instructor and curriculum helped me quickly find a comfort level.

It was just a wonderful experience for me, not having been in school for 30 years."

“The technical information was phenomenal. The labs we had were excellent and I was very confident when I left that I knew what I was doing. The anatomy was a lot more then I needed, but it was really helpful.”

When Coastal Medical needed someone and no graduates were available, MTTI’s Career Services department saw that Joly should be able to help them out.

Although Kathy was not yet scheduled to begin internship, she went, every day after school for two days, to help out and train, at the Coastal Medical practice. “When I was finally ready for the internship, I only had two weeks remaining to fulfill my hours.”

As she completed her internship hours, Coastal Medical hired her.

She says she loves it there. As of 2016, Kathy continues to work as a Medical Assistant for Coastal Medical. Kathy was invited to join MTTI's Program Advisory Committee; she regularly returns to MTTI to review the Medical Assistant curriculum.

“When I was younger,” Joly said, “I wanted to be a nurse. I’m just doing now what I wanted to do all those years ago. I highly recommend the school to anybody who is interested.”

Comments about Kathy from Coastal Medical's Administration:

“Kathleen is a very pleasant person. She came into Coastal at a very busy time during the flu season… She was willing and prepared for injections. She began working with patients immediately and she mastered the flu injections. She was well prepared medically and we feel that MTTI was a big part of that. We have hired many MTTI interns and graduates. We have had very good results and found the hires to be well educated. MTTI does an excellent job preparing their students to enter the medical field and teaches the essential skills needed to fulfill their responsibilities.”
