Standards for Success
Ø GRADING
MTTI uses the following grade scale:
Class Theory
90-100 Superior
80-89 Good Quality
70-79 Average Quality
0-69 Failing
SHOP/LAB COMPETENCIES
PASS-FAIL
Students must pass 85% of competencies attempted
Each student receives a progress report for:
First Month - Maturity Skills, Overview of Shop and
Class Skills
Mid-Term - Complete Maturity, Classroom and Shop Grades
End of Program - Complete Maturity, Classroom and Shop Grades
Ø STANDARDS OF
PROGRESS
MTTI has two completion requirements which are the
standards for the trainees progress in various training areas. One requirement is the
maintenance of a 70% average in the related classroom theory and content. The other is the
maintenance of an 85% mastery of competencies or practical skills, in the training area.
Student assessment is ongoing in both areas and progress reports are kept on each student.
If, after the completion of progress reports, the
student has not maintained a "C"/70-79 average in the related theory and
content, or passed 85% of the competencies in the shop/lab area, he or she will be
notified of the unsatisfactory progress. If the student continues below the satisfactory
progress level for two more weeks (evening programs 5 weeks which is 60 hours), he or she
will be placed on probationary status and will meet with the Director, or designee, to
review his or her progress.
During probation the student will be given two more weeks
(evening programs 5 weeks which is 60 hours) to obtain satisfactory progress. At the end
of that probation period, if satisfactory progress is not obtained, the student will be
terminated. Refusal to participate in or complete assigned work will be grounds for
probationary status.
A student may appeal a notice of termination to the Director
upon the existence of extenuating circumstances. The Director must determine if the
extenuating circumstances exist, and, if so, may determine that satisfactory progress is
being made and may extend the probationary status accordingly. The probationary status
cannot be lifted until the student meets the "standards of progress".
Ø CLOCK
HOURS/CREDIT HOURS
A clock hour is defined as 55 minutes of instruction plus 5 minutes of break time
According to the US Department of Education standards,
credit hours are calculated on a 30 hour to 1 credit conversion rate. According to the
ACCSCT standards, credit hours are calculated on a 15 hour to 1 credit for classroom
hours, 30 hours to 1 credit for shop/lab time and 45 hours to 1 credit for externship
hours.
The credits earned per individual programs, calculated
by both the U.S. Department of Education and the ACCSCT method, are listed in the top of
the program description pages.
Ø MAKE UP POLICY
Incomplete (I) (consequences)
If a student receives an incomplete (I) in any unit, the
student will be given until the end of the course to make up this grade. If the grade is
not made up within this time frame, the incomplete will change to a failure (F).
Withdrawals
If the student is out for 10 consecutive
unexcused absences, the school will withdraw the student from the program. If a student withdraws from a program and returns within
1 year, all credits previously earned will be honored.
Non-Credit Remedial Courses
If it is determined that basic remedial skills are needed
for a student to be successful in the program, MTTI will coordinate with outside
educational agencies that provide such services, or hire such personnel to provide these
services (courses). These services may require further tuition costs based on the extent
of the services required and/or the agencies providing these services.
Repetition
Any student receiving an F in a unit at the end of a
course would be offered an opportunity to make up this grade the next time the course is
offered. The F grade will be changed to the new grade obtained. Students would be charged
on a per diem basis for repeating units after their class has graduated.
