Policies and Procedures
Ø GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to satisfactorily complete any technical education
program at MTTI, the student must maintain an 85% attendance rate, a 70% average on
written tests and assignments, an 85% mastery of the competencies in the students
area, and satisfactory work place behavior skills. MTTIs commitment to its mission,
responsibility to its students, and responsiveness to the regions employers, demand
such standards. Successful graduates will be awarded an MTTI Certificate of
Graduation, stating their area of training. Students must complete the program in a time
frame not to exceed 1.5 times the original length of the program.
Ø ATTENDANCE
POLICY
As noted, an 85% attendance rate is required for
completion, which includes all absences, excused and unexcused. Excused absences are those
granted in advance following the students request and/or documented i.e.: funerals,
illness or court. Work missed as a result of an excused absence must be made up and will
be graded on its merits.
Work missed as a result of an unexcused absence is graded as
incomplete, and must be made up by the end of the course. Absences totaling more than 15%
of the total program days will be considered cause for termination.
When a total of 15% of the program days has been accrued with
excused absences or a combination of excused and unexcused absences, the student shall
meet with the Director or designee, and give cause for his or her continued enrollment. If
the student has made up all of the missing work and has been able to maintain a minimum
70% average grade and an 85% mastery of competencies, the Director may waive the 85%
attendance requirement for graduation.
While the attendance policy allows for 15% absence for
individual circumstances that occur, 100% attendance is strongly encouraged to achieve the
highest standards of success. Absences of more than 2 days per month is considered
excessive and may result in a verbal warning that could lead to probationary status or
termination if the problem remains uncorrected.
Ø SEVERE WEATHER
CONDITIONS
If as the result of, or in the expectation of
severe weather conditions, the East Providence School District cancels school, MTTI
classes are also cancelled.
If, as a result of, or in expectation of severe weather
conditions, your home communitys public schools are cancelled and East Providence
public schools are not, you are excused from class and are subject to the make-up
requirements.
Ø TARDINESS
Excessive tardiness (3 times of at least 10
minutes each within a one month period) will result in a verbal warning which could lead
to probationary status or termination if the problem remains uncorrected.
Ø LEAVE OF
ABSENCE
A leave of absence may be granted to a student,
based upon a verified reason (e.g. illness) or upon the demonstration of a serious
personal issue. The the leave of absence period will not exceed 180 calendar days or the
start of the next class. The student must request the leave in writing and sign an
official Leave of Absence Request form.
Ø STUDENT
CONDUCT
Students are enrolled in MTTI to gain the skills
and competencies necessary for entry-level employment. The work behavior skills of the
students development occurs and/or continues here as well. The student is expected
to act with the same degree of professionalism, courtesy, cooperation and consideration at
MTTI as he/she would in the work place.
MTTI is a drug-free, substance-free work place, and the
possession of drugs, alcohol, firearms and/or other dangerous weapons on the MTTI premises
is strictly forbidden, and is grounds for termination. A student may also be suspended or
terminated for the following:
1. Continued disruption of
classes
2. Continued disrespect for others
3. Destruction of the property of MTTI or others
4. Excessive absences/tardiness
5. Failure to report bodily injuries
6. Failure to report property damage
7. Falsification of records
8. Fighting
9. Reasonable suspicion of illegal substance use
10. Repeated violation of lab areas (shop) rules
11. Sexual harassment
12. Theft
13. Verbal or physical abuse of staff or fellow students
Ø MTTIS
POLICY ON WARNING/TERMINATION
The disregard for any of MTTIs general rules
will be grounds for immediate termination. Failure to follow attendance and punctuality
policies will result in:
First Occurrence ... Verbal Warning
Second Occurrence ... Written Warning
Third Occurrence ... Termination from the Program
Ø FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS & PRIVACY (FERPA)
Students (or their parents/legal guardians if the student is
a dependent minor) are guaranteed the right to access their personal files. These rights
are protected under Section 99.6 of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
Students may inspect and review their educational records upon request to the Student
Services Advisor (SSA). Students should submit to the Student Services Advisor a written
request, which identifies as precisely as possible the record or records he or she wishes
to inspect. The SSA will make the necessary arrangements for access promptly as possible.
The SSA will then notify the student of the time and place where the records may be
inspected. Access must be given within forty-five (45) days from the receipt of the
request. When a record contains information regarding more than one student, the student
may inspect and review only the record(s) which relate to him/her. Student records are
considered private and, therefore, no information from student records will be released to
any third party without the written consent of the student or by an order from an
appropriate court or governmental entity.
